Telehandler Training
Telehandler Training is designed for newer Operators allowing them to operate a Telehandler in a workplace safely and/or looking to obtain their unit standards 23637 and 16701.
Courses cover the following elements:
- Practical training on the machine
- Pre-start checks
- Assessment of load placement requirements for weight and reach
- Interpretation of load charts
- Check the compatibility of attachments
- Function test of all controls and machine movements
- Operation of all steering modes
- Lift, carry, and place loads
- Correct rigging of load if required
Prerequisites
Evidence of 40 hours or 25 lifts of supervised work experience required before booking in your Practical Assessment to complete unit standard 23637 (Telehandler).
Trainees to hold class one full driver’s licence.
Trainees to hold W endorsement, if not it can be included on the course.

Practical Assessment Options

Off-job — $450 + GST per person
Additional charges apply for W Endorsement (Unit Standard 16701).
Course Duration and Unit Standards
Duration depending on numbers, experience and requirements for W endorsement in your group
If attestation is provided before training (verification of experience) - 3/4 to a full day in-class and on vehicle covering:
- 3/4 Day. Telehandler Training or Full Day. Telehandler & W Unit standard 16701
- Final practical assessment for unit standard 23637
If you don’t have previous experience - Final Practical assessment can only be completed after verification of experience.
- 3/4 Day Telehandler Training or Full Day. Telehandler & W Unit standard 16701
Using the skills obtained, you will then record 40 hours, or 25 lifts verified by employer.
- Off-job (2 hours) final practical assessment for unit standard 23637
Equipment requirements
Our preference is for customers to supply the following equipment:
- Telehandler and attachment/s, we will need confirmation of attachments you will be training on, Buckets, Forks etc.
- 2 types of loads at your site to pick up with certified lifting equipment.
- Area large enough to operate without contact with other vehicles/pedestrians etc
What happens after you finish the course
We will register applicable unit standards and issue an electronic certificate of achievement.
