Licencing Vehicle Requirements

When using your own truck for our NZTA Approved Driver Licence Course, you need to ensure that the vehicle meets all the NZTA requirements for being loaded.

 

Click on your license course on the right (or below on mobile) to download the PDF with detailed payload and weight requirements for the vehicle class.

 

Class 2

  • The vehicle must be loaded to at least 50% of the vehicles payload and weigh more than 6,000 kg.

Class 3

  • The truck and the trailer must be loaded to at least 50% of the vehicles payload and the combination must weigh more than 12,000 kg.

Class 4

  • The vehicle must be loaded to at least 50% of the vehicles payload and weigh more than 18,000 kg.

Class 5

  • The truck and the trailer must be loaded to at least 50% of the vehicles payload and the combination must weigh more than 25,000 kg.

 

Other Requirements

  • The vehicle must be at Certificate of Fitness standard and be displaying a current COF label on the windscreen.
  • It must also have a current Road user charges licence or E-road.
  • The vehicle licence must also be current and on display.

 

If your vehicle does not meet these requirements, the training or assessment will not take place until the above conditions are met.
