Logbook Course Exemption

When do I qualify for a logbook exemption?
All Approved Class licensing courses include logbook unit standard 24089 as a prerequisite. However, if you have already completed logbook training as part of a full course with another approved provider, you may be eligible for an exemption and won’t need to repeat it.
Here’s what you need to know.
Step 1: Provide evidence of prior logbook training
To qualify, we need proof that you completed logbook training as part of a full Approved Class course. This can be one of the following:
- A copy of your NZTA certificate for Unit Standard 24089 and the Class licence (see Class 2 example below), or
- An official letter from a previous NZTA approved training provider confirming you completed logbook training as part of a full licence course.

Step 2: Confirm when the course was completed
We also need to know when you completed Unit Standard 24089.
If the unit standard was completed more than 12 months ago, we are required to confirm that you have retained the required knowledge and competence to complete a logbook correctly. You can do this in one of two ways:
- Provide 7 consecutive days of a current, 100% correctly completed logbook (E-Roads not accepted), or
- Complete a logbook scenario exercise prior to your course day. This must be completed 100% correctly.
If you’re unsure whether you qualify or what evidence to provide, our team is happy to help just get in touch and we’ll talk you through it.
