Class 5 Truck Licence

Take the final step in your heavy vehicle licence career and get your Class 5 full licence immediately after getting your Class 5 learner licence. We provide from 1-3 hours of coaching to ensure you are prepared for your 1 hour practical assessment. This is our point of difference to set our trainees up for success.

This course allows drivers to fast-track their Class 5 Truck Driver Licence without waiting 6 months (or 3 months, if aged 25 or over) from when they get their Learner Licence. We will coach you on the theory and assess your skills to drive a heavy combination vehicle with a gross combined weight of more than 25,000kg.

We provide truck hire at an additional cost, contact us to learn more.

Prerequisites

  • Class 5 learners’ licence (we will need a copy when booking your course). Please bring it with you on the day. To get your Class 5 learners, you must have held your full NZ Class 4 licence for at least 6 months. Head to your nearest licencing agency with a current driver’s medical (unless one has been presented in the last 5 years,) pass your Class 5 Learner theory test, and contact us to book.
  • 24089 Worktime Logbook and Fatigue completed within the last 12 months
  • Trucks and transmissions differ from branch to branch. If you have a preference, please let us know.

When using your own truck for our Class 5 NZTA Approved Driver Licence Course, you need to ensure that the vehicle meets all the NZTA requirements for being loaded, the truck and the trailer must be loaded to at least 50% of the vehicles payload and the combination must weigh more than 25,000 kg.

What will I need to complete to prepare for this course?

Completing your pre-course study before the course begins is key to setting yourself up for success.

These materials cover the basics, so when the course starts, you’ll have a strong foundation to build on. Not completing your pre-course study increases your chances of struggling during the course and makes it harder to keep up with the content.

By getting the prep work done early, you'll find it much easier to follow along, ask questions, and enjoy the learning experience on the day. It’s crucial to be prepared; starting strong now will make the rest of the course smoother.

Steps to Prepare for Your Course:

  1. Download Your Guide – You can download or print off a hard copy it's a matter of preference.

  2. Complete the Self-Testing Questions – Go through all the questions to check your understanding.

This ensures you're well-prepared and can make the most of your training!

Good Luck! We look forward to seeing you in class.
