Light 4WD Recovery Unit Standard Training

Our course is designed to build drivers' knowledge and practical skill in safely recovering a light four-wheel drive vehicle, benchmarked against unit standard 20620.

Ideal for trainees:

Need to complete a specific unit standard for compliance training
Are responsible for recovering vehicles as part of their role
Want practical, hands-on experience with recovery equipment and techniques

Practical Assessment includes:

Different types of recovery equipment and recovery techniques
Basic formulas to calculate the weight resistance of the vehicle being recovered
Developing a plan to safely recover a light 4WD vehicle
Identifying and managing the dangers of vehicle recovery

This course includes practical training and assessment, with some theory planning completed in the field.

Prerequisites

Trainees must hold a minimum current class 1 restricted licence.
Unit standard 17978 (Operate a light 4WD vehicle in an off-road environment), or an attestation statement demonstrating equivalent knowledge or experience.

Course Numbers and Pricing

Cost: $2400 + GST (Group rate, up to 6 trainees)
Practical site hire from $250 + GST per day.
Travel to the practical training venue is required.

What to expect on the day

The course runs over one day and covers the elements relating to:

20620: Develop a recovery plan for the safe recovery of a light 4WD vehicle and safely recover a light 4WD vehicle.

Vehicles

Light 4WD vehicles are the client's responsibility to supply (ideally one vehicle per two trainees).
Recovery equipment you already have and use.

What happens after you finish the course

We will register applicable unit standards and issue your electronic Certificate of Achievement.
