Light 4WD Training
Our course is designed to build drivers' knowledge and practical skill in the characteristics and operation of a Light 4WD. This is a non-unit standard course, with 1 hour of online pre-study required before attending.
Ideal for trainees:
- Already hold the relevant unit standards and want to refresh their skills
- Have some experience and are looking for a skills refresher
- Have limited experience and want an introduction to light 4WD operation
Practical Assessment includes:
- Pre/post vehicle checks
- Understanding and using vehicle technology and different drive modes with available vehicles on site
- How tyre pressures and tread design affect traction
- Driving on low-friction surfaces
- Identifying potential hazards that affect vehicle design, stability and control
- Applying correct and risk-reducing driving techniques negotiating uneven, downhill, uphill and side-sloping terrain
- Water crossings (dependent on venue)
This course includes 1 hour of online pre-study, followed by practical training and assessment, with some theory planning completed in the field.
Prerequisites
- Drivers must hold a current full driver licence appropriate to the class of vehicle being driven.
- Completion of the 1-hour online pre-study module prior to attending.
Course Numbers and Pricing
- Cost: $2400 + GST (Group rate, up to 8 trainees)
- Practical site hire from $250 + GST per day.
- Travel to the practical venue is required.

Vehicles
Vehicles are the client's responsibility to supply (ideally one vehicle per 1–2 trainees).
