LUV Unit Standard Training
Our course is designed to build drivers' knowledge and practical skill in the characteristics and operation of a Light Utility Vehicle (LUV), benchmarked against unit standards 24553, 24556, 24558 and 24562. This is a 2-day course.
Ideal for trainees:
- Have limited experience
- Need to complete specific unit standards for compliance training
- Haven't done any compliance refresher training in the last five years (recommended)
Practical Assessment includes:
- Understanding and using vehicle technology and different drive modes with available vehicles on site
- How tyre pressures and tread design affect traction and handling
- Conducting thorough pre- and post-vehicle checks
- Techniques for driving on low-friction surfaces
- Identifying potential hazards that affect vehicle design, stability and control
- Applying correct and risk-reducing driving techniques negotiating uneven, downhill, uphill and side-sloping terrain
- Navigating water crossings (venue dependent)
This course includes a mix of theory and practical training and assessment.
Prerequisites
- Drivers must be at least 16 years of age.
- For unit standard 24553, candidates must have achieved unit standard 24556.
- For unit standard 24558, candidates must have achieved unit standard 24553.
- For unit standards 24562 and 24560, candidates must have achieved unit standard 24553.
Course Numbers and Pricing
- Cost: $4,400 + GST (Group rate, up to 8 trainees)
- Practical site hire from $250 + GST per day.
- Travel to the practical venue is required.
What to expect on the day
You'll be trained by experienced driver trainers, with a training programme designed to increase safety, efficiency and compliance. The course covers elements relating to:
- 24556: DKO Safe Operation of the light utility vehicle (LUV)
- 24553: Operate a LUV on flat ground in the workplace under close supervision
- 24558: Operate a LUV on rolling terrain under limited supervision
- 24562: Operate a LUV with mounted equipment or a load under limited supervision
- 24560: Ride a quad bike with mounted equipment or a load

Vehicles
- Vehicles are the client's responsibility to supply (ideally one vehicle per 1–2 trainees).
What happens after you finish the course
We will register applicable unit standards and issue your electronic Certificate of Achievement, along with a post-course report.
