Sideloader Training - Unit Standard
Unit Standard
A theory and practical assessment; no practical training is provided. You must already be competent in operating the equipment. Completing this unit standard gives you NZQA recognition of your skills.
Prerequisites
- As the course includes a practical workplace component, it is best delivered at the participant’s workplace.
- Drivers must hold a current full driver licence appropriate to the class of vehicle they will be operating.
- Unit Standard training is for experienced operators who are already competent operating the equipment.
Course Numbers and Pricing
Unit Standard Training:

$900 + GST for 1–2 trainees (5 hours)

$1800 + GST for 3–6 trainees (full day)
Course Duration and Unit Standards
Assessment: 5–8 hours, depending on the number of trainees.
- Assessments are conducted on one brand of Sideloader. If multiple brands are being used, additional time may be required.
- Unit Standard 17679 – Operate a truck-mounted Sideloader: Allow up to a full day, depending on trainee numbers
Equipment Requirements
You will need to provide the following equipment and facilities for the course:
- A sideloader capable of lifting full containers.
- A vehicle or trailer capable of being loaded by a sideloader.
- One container loaded to at least 50% of the sideloader’s SWL.
- Lifting chains with a current Certificate of Inspection (mandatory)
- Provide a safe working area suitable for the training and assessment.
- A room suitable for the theory component
What happens after you finish the course
We will register applicable unit standards and issue an electronic certificate of achievement and wallet card.
